Tales of Truku people
This is a story about an ethnicity with the tradition of facial tattoos. To the Truku, there is a sacred place in Mt. nenggao named Pusu Qhoni, where the Holy Tree was blessed by the spirits, and give birth to baby boys and girls. In order to have child, the love of couples was developed from the love of siblings, they got married by having facial tattoo to cross the taboo and form a new family. The family separated into three groups at Truwan, Nantou, which are Tgdaya, Toda and Truku. In order to have more hunting yards and places to live, part of the Truku people start migrating across the Central Mountain Range to eastern Taiwan. They said they came from Truku-Truwan, and called themselves Seejiq-Truku. Although sporadic conflicts happened caused by living disputes, but the contract with God and spirits, the facial tattoos, as well as the flowing blood in the vessels, were perpetual linkage among them all. The Japanese called them the Taroko group from Seediq, the Taroko canyon is also named after the Truku people. The Truku people fight for their freedom and living space when the Japanese government ruled Taiwan, after Japanese winning the war with Truku, the Japanese government tear the family into pieces and force each family moved to different places in Hualien, so they will no longer be willing to fight against the government anymore. This album presents the story about the migrating family, of their astounding lives and stories when they were still living in the Taroko canyon.
